The rocky Indragiri hill from a distance, the pilgrims formed an ant-queue to the holy peak.

618 steps, under an extreme summer condition, it wasn't an easy accent at all, not to mention the soring feet on the flaming ground.

The Mount Kinabalu submit flashed across my mind when I sighted this acquainted view.

Gate after gate, we continued our ascend on this soul liberating religious trail with the upholding patience and peace.

"Leave the hardwork to the service, while I enjoy my panaromic view on a cozy chair."

"Not all the time I enjoy my luxurious and smooth ride up the hill. Human traffic slows me down."

Finally make it to the first temple, many took the opportunity to photograph while slowly regaining our breath. The sight here reminded me of Acropolis in the context of the far East.

While we were all sandwiched back to back, locals continued to find me the 'foreigner' an interesting company to initiate chat and photograph. "Yes ma'm, I'm not local!". I was photographed more than I released my camera shutter.

We are almost there, no sweat!

This enormous Jain saint is apparently the world tallest monolithic statue that stands 58ft above ground. Its simplicity and peaceful designs are remarkably crafted and preserved over 1000 years. The once every 12 years festival drew people from all walk of life to witness and anoint flour, holywater and milk on the Jain saint.

The statue of Jain teacher Bahubali stood awesomely high above his devotees. I was enthralled by God's creation.

The happy pilgrim family after receiving sacred blessing from the Jain saint.

I was lucky to be here during this once a 12 years festive season, but not on the actual day of celebration itself. Visit BBC News to see this significant festival in the eyes of the award-winning photographer Karoki Lewis.
