Delicious breakfast at Pokhara
Lake View Resort, before riding on a cab to the starting
point. Double fried eggs, 2 slices of bread and some potatoes,
enough carbs for the next few hours, I supposed. |

The taxi driver showed us his
solemn face, he knew better than us that our hike was
going to be a tough one. |

Final check on the stuff we needed,
before our backpacks were tied for porters to carry for
the day. |

Yes, our first step, at Phedi.
This also marked the starting point of living 1000m above
sea-level for the next 10 days. |

1030m ascent and 370m descent
today, omigosh! We immediately embarked on a 45-minute
steep climb. |

Take a break, and enjoy the first
scenic view. Pheww

Not long, we arrived at lower
Dhampus, surrounded by rice fields. |

Wonder who taught them the hand

First sight of Machhapuchhre
(6997m), or better known as the Fish Tail Mountain. Obviously
the gloomy sky hadn't recovered from the continuous downpour
in the past 2 days. What a luck! |

No more cellphone signal from
this point onwards. Also, no more calendar; no more internet
surfing; no more warm mattress; no more Lost season 3
too... |

After passing countless Gurung
villages, we finally arrived at our destination of the
first day - the small settlement of Tolka. This is a perfect
view from my 'room'. |

1 fried rice, 1 fried noodle,
1 tomato soup, 1 apple pie, and a cup of hot ginger lemon
tea, hmm... better serving than my city meal. |

My austere corner room, with
2 windows, but I still felt like living in a cave. Perhaps
lacking a good warm-up, the first day's hike of 6.5 hours
gave me tear-inducing muscle pain. It was quite a cold
night even at a relatively low altitude (1790m, or may
be 1793m, since I slept at upper floor). Out of sheer
tiredness, I conked out (I mean sleep) at 8pm that night. |
